Role-playing Helen Keller & Ms. Sullivan
After reading the autobiography, "The Story of My Life" by Helen Keller, our 6th grade classes worked in pairs to put themselves in the characters' shoes. They began by learning a few letters in sign language. They then took turns playing Helen and Ms. Sullivan. The student who played Helen had to close their eyes and determine what "Ms. Sulivan" was trying to sign. As a result, we gained a better understanding of the diligence and determination of both Helen and Ms. Sullivan.
